Ganesha Festival
Ganesh chaturthi is the Hindu festival celebrated in honour of Lord Ganesha, the elephant headed. Remover of obstacles and the God of beginings and wisdom. People call them with many names Vakratunda, Bappa, Vigna harta, Ganapati, and lots more.
Also known as Vinayaka chaturthi, is observed in Hindu calender month of Bhadrapada, starting on the shukla charturthi. The festival lasts for 10 days ending on Anant chaturdashi.
Although celebrated all over india but with the great fervour in Maharashtra. Beautiful idols of Ganesh are worshipped with the belief that Ganesha bestows his presence on the earth for all his devotes during this festival. Well known for pomp & splendour, the festival starts with installation of beautiful idols of Ganesha in colourfully decorated Pandals.
The last day is call as Visarjan of the festival, these idols are taken in a grand procession to be immersed in holy water body. People chant 'Ganapati bappa moriya, Pudhchya varshi lavkar yaa' means 'O' lord Ganesha we prey and request you come again next year soon to bestow your love 'n' blessings on us.
